A Hidden Gem
Tucked in the Santa Monica Mountains
A visit to the Sycamore Canyon Falls and Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center is not only magical, but can give you food for thought. To be surrounded by native plants on land that Chumash Indians lived on for thousands of years should not be taken for granted. The culture center offers insight on how natives lived everyday life with the resources offered by the land.
Upon reflection, it led me to think about how people lived without many conveniences modern life offers. It shifted my perspective and made me ask myself, what do I really need? After evaluating, I realized I don’t need a lot. I’ve come to appreciate the simple (or not so simple) things in life like having access to local foods, living in a safe space, being able to enjoy the outdoors, etc. This isn’t to say I’m not grateful for all the more I do have. It just reminds me that I really don’t need more.
